Here, contained in this little photocollage, is the reason I’ve been MIA and/or a completely failed, intermittent blogger for the past year… COLLEGE!

It’s been a fabulous first year (yes, first year, not ‘freshman year’… it’s a UVa thing…), and I can’t believe it’s almost over! I take my first final at 9 am tomorrow… and I’ll be moving out exactly a week from now.

I don’t really know how I feel about all of this. On the one hand, I can’t wait to get out of the dorm (I’m so over this whole ‘dorm’ concept… thank goodness I have a legitimate apartment next year. With a kitchen. And a washer and dryer!!) And I’m going to France for 6 weeks this summer, which will be incredible.

But on the other hand… I’m only seventeen and the fact that my first year of college is already over (yes, I’m a youngun’…) makes me feel kind of…old? If that’s even possible. It’s just all been so fleeting.

BUT ANYWAY. This will become a fashion blog again when I’m no longer in full nerd-mode. I MEAN IT THIS TIME.

The fact that this is my second outfit post in a row broadcasted from the FLOOR OF THE LIBRARY should tell you something about:

a) how much time I spend in the library [an inordinate amount].

b) my need for procrastinatory outlets [hence the outfit posts... which I ironically do more often when I'm incredibly busy... go figure.]

ANYWAY:

Today was “De-Stereotype Day” here at UVa, and just about everyone is sporting this tee-shirt (which only marginally raises the homogeneity of people’s sartorial tastes around here…YIKES). We were supposed to write something about ourselves that isn’t stereotypical on the back of the shirt. Mine says “I love rap” because, while I don’t even think twice about my intense affection for rap, others apparently find it incongruous with my nerdy parlance and phosphorescent-white complexion.

Yeah, the whole concept is a little campy and hokey, but I rather enjoy it… maybe another anti-stereotypical thing about me is that I have a soft spot for the kind of unbridled optimism and faith in the potential of the human race that is required to plan an event like “De-Sterotype Day.”

… I’ll stop writing incredibly long and obnoxiously complex sentences now and show you a few more sub-par library shots.

As of this week, I am embarking on the FINAL MONTH of my first year of college. It will be a month defined by two giant papers, four group projects (in all of which I will be powerless to resist taking an absurd leadership role…because I’m THAT MUCH of a nerd/control freak…), another calculus midterm, five finals, and plenty of other annoying things like keeping up with reading and silly little homework assignments. oh boy.

Anyway, to celebrate the death of my social life, I decided to wear some new shoes today– meet my beautiful Louboutin babies (if anyone’s counting, I now have two pairs of Christian Louboutins…and the addiction is growing with every pair…)

I got them on an insane sale at outlook.com; I actually bought two pairs and had to make an agonizingly painful choice between them… I finally decided on these precisely because they weren’t like anything else I own.

Normally, I gravitate towards shoes that have a harder edge, or are more ‘fashion-y’ (see my Nicholas Kirkwoods and Margielas for examples of my shoe tastes). But here, deciding between these candy-colored beauties and another pair of (admittedly downright GORGEOUS) camel pumps, I took the plunge and went for the pair that was, quite simply, FUN.

I mean, LOOK AT THEM. They’re just pure, unadulterated, shiny, pin-up, vampy, maraschino-cherry FUN.

Wearing them around campus today, I know I’ve made a good choice… despite the immense amount of work I have to do today, I can’t help but have a little spring in my step! AND they’re comfortable. Christian Louboutin, je t’adore!

The rest of my outfit is a) hard to see in these shitty webcam pictures (left my camera at home. oops) and b) irrelevant in comparison to the shoes.

I’ve written too much and I have to go to class now. Joy.

P.S. Yes, these pictures were taken ON THE FLOOR OF THE LIBRARY, because apparently everyone and their mother decided to take up EVERY SINGLE AVAILABLE SEAT and I had to resign myself to a dark corner of the stacks, squatting on the floor all hobo-like with my latté and copious notebooks.

Caught Out There

Hannah and Lee and I went to Wal-Mart (or, as the sign at our Wal-Mart reads, “WA-MART”) last night… because it is obviously the greatest place on earth.

We had to be surreptitious with the camera because, for some reason, WA-MART prefers not to have its hilarity and absurdity photographed.
